Medical Documentation Representative

Job Description

Essential Functions

·        Obtains prior authorization for medical equipment and/or services as required.

·        Verifies qualifying diagnosis for medical equipment.

·        Obtains additional documentation, letters of medical necessity (LMN) and/or office notes for medical equipment and/or services.

·        Obtains sleep study results and verifies qualifying information for medical equipment as needed.

·        Works with other HME companies to obtain required documentation when customer chooses to change providers.

·        Calls customers as needed to verify continued use of equipment.

·        Mails physician's written physician orders (WPO's) for medical equipment.

·        Verifies that customers maintain equipment only for time prescribed by physician. Work with physician to extend authorization on rental equipment if needed.

·        Assists with locating lost equipment as needed.

·        Provides reports on billing activities as requested by the Billing Department Supervisor/Director of Reimbursement.

·        Maintains customer confidentiality and business privacy. Is knowledgeable and follows all HIPAA guidelines.

·        Participates in continuing education programs and/or in-services appropriate to job responsibilities or as required.

·        Performs related responsibilities and other duties as required or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

·        Effective interpersonal, time management and organizational skills.

·        High School Diploma or Equivalent

·        Prior experience working with insurance and claims processing (preferred).

·        Prior experience working with billing software (preferred).

·        The employee is required to use hands to operate office equipment.
